2 Book Releases at Celebration of Words & Art

Exciting news! We here at Left Fork have worked with the Southern Oregon Guild of Artists & Artisans to put together a full weekend celebrating words and art and words IN art.

On Saturday, Sept 17, there will be a poetry workshop with award-winning poet Michael Spring (2pm). Michael’s numerous honors include the Turtle Island Poetry Award, a fellowship from DISQUIET, an honorable mention from the Eric Hoffer Book Awards, and a listing for his Mudsong as one of 150 outstanding poetry books in Oregon’s 150-year history. Following the workshop, will be a book release for Michael’s 4th book of poetry, Unfolding the Field (at 4pm). Michael will share his work, but we’ll also open things up for a community. poetry open mic.

Then on Sunday, Sept 18, there will be a words & art workshop with Alx Fox (2pm). Alx has a passion for capturing emotion on canvas. Participants will combine paint and paper, words and images, sundry objects, color, and inspiration to create a unique piece of multi-media art.

After Alx’s workshop, we’ll celebrate the release of Issue 2 of Cobra Lily: a review of southwest oregon literature and art (at 4pm). The event will feature artists sharing their work–from this issue of Cobra Lily, but also from both of the weekend’s workshops. (See flyer below for more details). Please note that we are asking for $5 admission to cover costs, though there will be food, music, and wine-tasting, and each paid admission will get a free raffle ticket to win some great books, including issues 1 and 2 of Cobra Lily, a signed copy of Michael’s Unfolding the Field, and the Doodle, Design, & Draw Book for Illinois Valley Kids of All Ages (additional raffle tickets will be $1 each).
